As was the tradition with his "Lord of the Rings" movies, Peter Jackson will release an extended version of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" on November 5, right before the next movie, "The Desolation of Smaug," opens in theaters, and the first clip from that cut is already available!

For those who may not have been keeping track at home, this is actually the second time "The Hobbit" has been extended, since the prequel saga was originally planned as two movies. This might explain why the extended edition only add 12 minutes, whereas the longer cut of "The Fellowship of the Ring" added a half-hour.

Anyone who picked up the extended editions of "The Lord of the Rings" understand that the extra footage is only part of the reason buy the set. The true riches lie in the nine hours of new special features that will take a look at every step of production for the first film in the trilogy.

The Appendices, as they're called here and on the "Lord of the Rings" disc, are pretty much the definition of thorough and rewarding extras, so while a few extra minutes of Bilbo talking to Elrond might not make you want to cough up some cash, these special features will definitely be worth your time and money.
